Winner of Best Dance and the Peace Foundation Award at the 2018 Adelaide Fringe, Not Today’s Yesterday is an international collaboration between Australian choreographer Lina Limosani and UK Bharatanatyam artist Seeta Patel. A one woman show, performed by Patel, this stunning performance blends Bharatanatyam, contemporary dance and theatre in a provocative, politically pertinent and dark fairy tale about colonialism.
Set in an unspecified time and place, it challenges nostalgic and white-washed views of history and interrogates our ideas of equality, culture and identity, inviting audiences to see the past anew and to hope for a better future.
An exciting part of this work is its post-show curated conversation that takes place between the central creative collaborators, guest speakers such as historians, activists, writers or artists, and the audience.
Lina, Seeta and their team are undertaking a residency to remount this work for Melbourne’s AsiaTOPA festival and South Australian regional touring. They will present a school showing and a public showing with Vitalstatistix.
